Description of course:
The graphical reproduction class will provide the studentan in depth
overview of the printing industry and up-to-date knowledgeof the day-to-day
practices of electronic prepress. In addition,other forms of communication
will be explored, i.e., multimediaand Internet. This will enable the student
to obtain hands-ontraining in the production methods used by most companies
in thegraphics industry. Methods will include lecture, class trips andtraining
in software. Evaluation will include critiques of classprojects and written
examinations.
General Instructional Methods:
Lecture and assigned laboratory related work.
General Objectives:
As a result of participation in this class, students shouldbe able:
1) To be aware of the importance of graphic communication industriesas
it relates to people, commerce, communities, and the nation.
2) To be introduced to the concepts involved in the graphic communicationfield.
3) To design, layout, and perform operations with the aid of computersand
various graphical application software.
4) To understand the basic principals of camera and film, andthe ability
to perform operations involving their use.
5) To rationally approach problems encountered in the laboratory,and
arrive at logical solutions.
6) To discuss the careers available in the communications industry.
7) To select media appropriate messages.

Class Policies:
-Student must take the final examination in order to passthe class.
-Students are expected to attend class and participate. Please let
me know if you will not be attending class on a particular day by emailing
me or calling and leaving a message with the secretary.
-Attendance is required. Don't waste my time and other student's time
by being absent. Attendance will affect your grade. Activities are specifically
designed as in-class endeavors. Attendance is mandatory, due to the participatory
nature of the course activities.After two (2) unexcused absences, 10 percentage
points will be deducted from your final grade. What you put into the course
is what you will get out of it. Conflicts with examination days needto
be arranged at least two class meetings before the day of theexam so that
arrangements can be made to reschedule the examination. IF arrangements
are NOT made there will be NO make-ups. Thank you.
Academic Misconduct
Faculty Rules 3335-5-54 which states "Each Instructorshall report to
the committee on academic misconduct all instancesof what they believe
may be academic misconduct" will be followed.
Academic misconduct includes: substituting another's work as your own,
either in written or product form.
If you have any questions regarding a behavior that might constitute
academic misconduct, consult the instructor.

Field Trips:
There will be three field trips during the course. You arerequired
to attend each trip. In addition, you will be requiredto write a paper
about your experience. Criteria for the papersTBA.

Note: Questions about these field trips are fair game on midterms and
finals!
Student Requirements:
Each student will be responsible for the following:
1-Roll of B/W film (Type of film TBA)
1-100 MB Zip-formatted for the Macintosh computer.
1-3 ring binder

Each project will have a project sheet for you to fill out andturn
in. It is YOUR responsibility to turn in project sheets ontime and filled
out completely.
