The major goal of technology education at the Ohio State Univesity is to prepare students to be qualified technology education teachers who are able to provide leadership in technology education. Technology education is an organized program of studies which is taught in schools for the purpose of studying how people alter their environment by making changes in the forms of materials and the societal problems which result from human use of technology. The study of technology education is both a component of a balanced liberal or general education and a means of integrating other disciplines through application. Technology Education programs are offered in schools throughout the state, the country, and the world at all levels of education.

Technology Education program goals from the
Ohio Technology Systems Handbook (Savage, 1990, 14-5):

Technology Education will produce individuals who can participate in, and adapt to a technological society. Consistent with their abilities, interests, and needs, learners will:

  1. Understand and appreciate the evolution of technology;
  2. Establish values related to the impact of technology and its effect on our environment;
  3. Develop knowledge and ability to properly use the resources, processes, and systems of technology;
  4. Develop creative solutions to present and future societal problems using technical means.
  5. Develop human potentials for responsible work, leisure, and citizenship roles in a technological society.
