* LAKEVIEW HIGH SCHOOL, Battle Creek , MI . (Received 4/2/08) - This school district needs a full-time Industrial Education (Technology Education) teacher. The program has grown in the last five years and they are now in need of a new teacher to help them expand and keep up to date in their new facility (completed 2006). The full-time position they have for the fall of 2008 is to teach what is call Production Classes and Computer Graphic classes (5 Production classes and possibly 1 computer graphics class). The Production classes use mostly the raw material-wood allowing the students to learn about technology tools, materials, and processes. Students will explore producing goods using conventional equipment as well as higher tech CNC equipment, designing products such as the CO2 car, and experiencing a multiple of small learning activities. We also still teach some conventional technology with advanced woodworking where students build complex projects like grandfather clocks and other various pieces of furniture. The Computer Graphics classes introduces many concepts in units to explore the graphics world. They learn graphic design, electronic communication, multimedia, computer-aided drafting-mechanical and architectural, and all sorts of other graphics areas using the computer. We are looking for a teacher with a broad tech background that has an emphasis in woodworking tech; preferably with an IX Industrial Tech Certification with an enthusiasm to learn the tech areas. Once someone with this emphasis is found then we will train them on the rest of our technology and program. We will also have a middle school Applied Technology opening. This 8th grade class incorporates the modular approach. There are several computer modules that the students rotate through for an introduction to physical technology and information technology. Old Dominion University’s Department of Occupational and Technical Studies seeks applications for a full-time assistant professor or associate professor (10 month appointment with opportunity for summer employment), beginning August 2008. The candidate for this position should expect to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Technology Education (as defined by Standards for Technological Literacy, International Technology Education Association, 2000) and Industrial Technology. Responsibilities include advising students, mentoring M.S. and Ph.D. students, conducting research to obtain external funds, producing scholarly publications, presenting research findings, being active in international professional associations, and contributing to the university’s service mission. Teaching expertise in production technologies (materials, construction, manufacturing, and automation) is desirable. Ability to instruct graduate education in occupational and technical studies is required. Work in STEM and engineering approaches to technology education is desirable. The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Ph.D. is required of applicants in technology education or related areas with a strong foundation in technology education to enable the candidate to specialize in this area of teaching and research. The position requires ability to also teach in the area of graduate career and technical education. The candidate should have the ability to teach both in face-to-face and distance learning modes (televised and web-based). Teaching experience at the university and secondary level in technology education desired. Candidate will need to establish a record of publications and funded research.

This is a nine-month position with summer instruction possibilities. The department offers a bachelors degree in Human Resource Training and Development as well as a Master of Training and Development. A PhD program has been identified as part of our eight-year plan. Anticipated start date is January 2008. Responsibilities: Faculty members are responsible for teaching classes, conducting research and providing service to the university, college and community. Advising is also an expected responsibility of each faculty member. This position requires that the successful candidate be responsible for: Teaching three classes per semester; advising of both undergraduate and graduate students to include guiding masters theses; providing service to the College and the University by serving on committees; engaging in scholarly research resulting in presentations and publications; teaching classes both on campus and at outreach centers; and submitting RFP's for grants. Minimum Qualifications: An earned doctorate in a relevant field is preferred, ABD will be considered. A background in statistical analysis with a record of research and publications is required. Work related experience in the training field working with adult learners is preferred. University teaching experience including advising and directing graduate projects is preferred but not required.
